DPN30: Never Stop Dreaming

In March of 2018, the world celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Deaf President Now protest. In that month, we spent time with some of the major figures of that protest: Philip Bravin, Tim Rarus, Greg Hlibok, Gerald Covell, Bridgetta Bourne-Firl, and I. King Jordan. We asked them to take us on a journey, looking back thirty years to that remarkable week on the campus of Gallaudet University. our cameras were rolling as they reflected on how far we've come, and on the road ahead. Since that time, from their words, moment by moment and memory by memory, we have worked tirelessly to piece together this retelling of how a group of brave and determined students changed the course of history.

Why Deaf Legacy?

We at ZVRS and Purple Communications are a team of people who live and work as part of the Deaf community. Many of us are leaders in schools and organizations, many of us are parents, artists, writers, thinkers, and innovators who work hard every day to break barriers and innovate beyond expectations. Where does our strength come from? We believe none of this would be possible without the legacy of so many inspiring Deaf leaders, artists, performers, and innovators that came before us, or who are breaking new ground right now, creating new possibilities never imagined before. All of these brave, dynamic people are the foundation of our community and have created a legacy worth remembering. Our mission, with these films, is not only to preserve this rich history but to also pass it forward to our young people who will one day take our places and create legacies of their own.
